This recipe is an exotic main course dish with paneer (Indian cheese), peas in a tomato sauce with mild spices. This recipe can be served with roti, naan or rice.

Method:

  1. Take a pan and heat the oil for 2-3 minutes.  Once the oil heats up add the jeera, cloves, cinnamon and star anise. Fry the spices for a minute and add the green chillies, ginger and onions.
  2. Once the onion turns translucent add the tomato puree, turmeric powder, salt, red chili powder, corriander powder and fry until the oil separates and the gravy looks cooked and has a nice aroma. This should take approximately 5 minutes in medium heat.
  3. Add the yogurt and beat continuously to mix with the gravy – if you don’t mix it well immediately the yogurt will get curdled in the gravy.
  4. Once the yogurt blends nicely with the gravy to form a rich creamy paste, add the cooked peas, add some water if needed.  The gravy should not be too thick or watery.
  5. Once the peas cook for 2-3 minutes, add the paneer and sprinkle the garam masala and coriander.
  6. Let it cook for a minute and turn the heat off.
  7. Serve hot with rice, roti or naan.
